Reiki

Reiki is two things to me: it's that spark that, when you close your eyes and take a deep breath, tells us we're all connected. It is our body's own knowing, and the connection we feel to the universe.

It's also the formalized system that was created by Usui Sensei in Japan and widely brought to the West from Japan in the 1900's by Mrs. Takata. Since the formalization of the system, there are endless options of Reiki available - from Jikiden to Holy Fire and everything in between.

Practicalities
In practical terms, a Reiki session can look different depending on the practitioner. If you work with me, the session will look similar whether they are in-person or remote (called Enkaku). Any session will begin with settling in and catching up on what has been coming to mind and coming up for you lately. This is also when we'll talk about intentions for the session.

Face-to-Face Session

For in-person sessions, you'll then get cozy on the table (similar to a massage table, but fully clothed and under comfy blankets) and relax. As the session develops, you may feel different sensations - temperature changes, tingling, waves of energy moving through - or you might not notice anything at all. All of this is perfectly normal, and can change from session to session.

Enkaku

(Remote Session)

The process itself is the same for remote sessions - you will want to make sure you have a quiet place that is free from distraction where you can sit or lay comfortably for the full length of the session and relax as much as possible. You may also want to set an alarm if you have plans after the session, as you might fall asleep!

After Session Care

After receiving a Reiki session, it is normal to notice different changes within or around you - take note of these, and know that everyone's journey is different. Be sure to also drink lots of water and rest - we are made mostly of water, and few of us drink nearly enough (myself included!)

Additional Resources

There are endless resources available when it comes to Reiki, with more emerging every day. Below are only a small few of the ones I have found especially helpful in my own journey so far
